FastFact: Insurance, Maintenance Lead Post-Recession Household Spending

Household insurance has emerged as the fastest-growing housing expense since the Great Recession ended in 2009, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The data showed that household insurance spending has increased 67.8% since the recession, easily outdistancing other household spending categories such as rent and mortgage, household maintenance and furniture.
Maintenance was another fast-growing category, with spending up 29.8% since the recession.
