Bob Timberlake Named IFDA Luminary Award Winner

Bob Timberlake, an internationally acclaimed artist who pioneered furniture and home décor licensing, has been named winner of the 2017 Luminary Award from the Carolinas chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Assn.

The award will be presented Nov. 8 at the chapter’s seventh annual “Night of Luminaries” dinner at the High Point Country Club in High Point, N.C.

Also honored at the event are the industry’s Rising Stars, senior-level undergraduates selected by their colleges or universities across North and South Carolina as their most outstanding home furnishings or design student.

The students represent all facets of design, including furniture design, industrial design and interior design.  Each student will choose one recent project that best exemplifies his or her work and design philosophy. The projects will be displayed at a cocktail reception held in their honor before the awards dinner.

“We’re delighted to continue to celebrate and reward the individuals who make such enormous contributions to our industry,” said Leslie Gunter, Carolinas IFDA chapter president. “For nearly 30 years, Bob Timberlake has helped transform the home furnishings industry through his commitment to the art and craft of fine furniture-making, his exceptional ability to design pieces that resonate with generations of consumers, and his legendary longevity in brand licensing and marketing.  His integrity, generosity and quiet leadership have brought him legions of admirers both outside and inside the design and furnishings worlds.”

Timberlake’s first licensed furniture collection, The World of Bob Timberlake, was an immediate success upon its launch in 1990, and it pioneered the concept of branding a furniture collection based on a famous personality or concept.

Licensed by Century Furniture since 2011, the collection is considered one of the most successful in history.

The Night of Luminaries dinner will begin with the Rising Star cocktail reception at 5 PM. Dinner follows at 6 PM. Cost is $50 per person, or $400 for a table of 8. Reservations will be accepted online at https://squareup.com/store/carolinas-chapter-ifda through Nov. 3.
