2017 by Larry Thomas in Economic News, Industry
Although the number of Americans who move has been at historic lows in recent years, the most common reason for moving hasn’t changed a bit – people simply want a nicer home or apartment.
Data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that 17.4% of movers listed this at the principal reason for their move from 2015 to 2016, up from 14.8% between 2009 and 2010.
Other housing-related reasons for moving from 2015 to 2016 included a need for less expensive housing (8.2% of movers) and wanting to move to a safer neighborhood (3.1% of movers.) In addition, some 5.9% of movers were renters who had just purchased their first home.
