FastFact: Job-Related Moves on the Rise Again
September 25,
2017 by Larry Thomas in Economic News, Industry
Job-related moves, which were curtailed by slow job growth and more restrictive corporate transfer policies during the past decade, are on the upswing again, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The data showed that 10.8% of movers in 2016 did so because of a new job or job transfer. That’s up from 7.8% who cited the same reasons in 2010.
Another 6% of 2016 movers said they wanted to have an easier commute to work – almost double the rate in 2001.
Other job-related reasons for moves, including moving to look for work after a lost job or retirement, impacted less than 2% of movers.
