Upholstery major Palliser Furniture cut the ribbon on its newest manufacturing facility this week in Matamoros, Coahuila, Mexico.
The 65,000 square-foot plant is adjacent to the company’s existing cut-and-sew operation, and will employ up to 180 people. The 180 new jobs range from operators and technicians to engineers and management.
"We are so proud of this new facility and of the growth that we've been able to realize over the past few years," said Cary Benson, president and CEO. "This is our fifth manufacturing facility in North America, allowing us to service our customers even more efficiently."
Benson said the need for the new factory was driven by the growth of its theater seating business, Encore by Palliser, and its entry level upholstery brand, North American Furniture Company.
Palliser is implementing new manufacturing methodologies in this facility, including the use of conveyor one-piece continuous flow production in order to achieve higher efficiencies and more strenuous quality control.
The company said energy efficiency was a key priority of the design, which uses low-demand kilowatt equipment and LED illumination.
