Report: Rothman Furniture to End 90-year Run in St. Louis Area

Rothman Furniture & Mattress, a 90-year-old family-owned retailer with six stores in the St. Louis area, will soon be closing its doors for good, according to a story in the Alton (Ill.) Telegraph.
The newspaper story quoted CEO Jay Steinback, grandson of founder Milton Rothman, as saying his stores no longer could compete with the much larger home furnishings chains in the area such as Ikea, Bob’s Discount Furniture, Ashley HomeStores, and Value City Furniture.
The report said liquidation sales were planned at all Rothman’s locations, but no timetable was given.
