Bassett Opens First Retail Store in Pittsburgh

Bassett Furniture Inds. (NASDAQ: BSET) has opened its first retail store in the Pittsburgh market -- a 12,740-square-foot retail store on a busy retail corridor at Block Northway Mall.

It is the fourth company-owned retail store opened this year, and boosts Bassett’s store count to 91.

“Pittsburgh will be a great addition to our continued nationwide store expansion after the opening of four new locations earlier this year," said Robert Spilman Jr., Bassett chairman and CEO.  "We are looking forward to welcoming customers from Pittsburgh and surrounding areas to experience the distinctive style, comfort and value that have made Bassett a trusted furniture brand for more than 100 years."

The store offers complimentary decorating and design consultation, with experienced designers available to help create custom furnishings, define the customer's decorating style, establish a budget, make a house call, or offer a professional design opinion.  Spilman said Bassett is leveraging its customization capabilities by dedicating space in the store for design solutions for dining, upholstery and bedroom.

"This venture is the latest effort in our primary corporate growth strategy - the expansion of our retail store network,” he said. “So far this year, Bassett has opened new stores in King of Prussia, Pa.; Westbury, N.Y.; Culver City, Ca.; and relocated its Scottsdale, Ariz., location.  A licensed partner also opened a new store in Kansas City in July.  We are excited about the opening of 7 to 9 additional new stores in the next year and look forward to exposing the Bassett brand and our products and services to communities throughout the United States."

During the Pittsburgh store's grand opening event planned for Oct. 7, Bassett will donate $10,000 worth of furniture to The Heyward House, a foundation established by Pittsburgh Steelers' defensive end Cameron Heyward to leave a lasting and positive imprint upon the lives of youth. The foundation supports outreach programs for kids especially those from disadvantaged circumstances.
