Tempur Sealy Boosts Hurricane Contributions to $2.5 Million

Bedding major Tempur Sealy International (NYSE: TPX) said it is making an additional commitment of $1.5 million in mattress donations and contributions to support hurricane recovery efforts in Florida and Texas.

The latest commitment boosts the company's total hurricane-related contributions to nearly $2.5 million.

Tempur Sealy said it will work primarily with its long-time disaster recovery partner Good360, which coordinates directly with local recovery agencies to meet the needs of families impacted by disasters.

Because of the large scope of need following back-to-back hurricanes, Tempur Sealy will be donating beds from its entire family of brands, including Cocoon by Sealy, Tempur-Pedic, Sealy and Stearns & Foster.

"It's been hard to watch the devastation caused in Florida by Hurricane Irma on the heels of the damage in Texas caused by Hurricane Harvey," said Scott Thompson, Tempur Sealy chairman and CEO. "But just as we witnessed in Texas, it has been inspiring to see the citizens of Florida pull together to help neighbors, friends and even strangers. As they begin to rebuild their lives, we want them to know that we and our retail partners will be there to help."

In addition to committing more than $2 million worth of beds for hurricane victims, the company has also earmarked up to an additional $400,000 to establish a support fund for retailer-directed charitable contributions.

Thompson noted that the company has already delivered four trailer loads of mattresses to assist Houston-area shelters and charities, with more to come. The donations have been coordinated through Good360 and the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, two of the company's longtime partners for charitable giving.

Tempur Sealy and Good360 have been engaged in past disaster recovery efforts in Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and other areas. The partnership has helped thousands of families begin to rebuild their lives following natural disasters.
