A desire for new or different housing was the principal reason Americans moved last year, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The data showed that 42.1% of the 35.1 million movers cited this desire as the principle reason for their move. Another 27.4% said the move was due to a change in family status -- such as a marriage, divorce, or establishing a new household -- and 20.1% said it was a job-related move.
According to the Census Bureau, those were the top three reasons cited by all age groups except those 65 and over, where the number of job-related moves were minimal.
