Multi-brand retailer Mattress1One has committed to assisting with relief efforts pledging $350,000 in cash, mattresses and box springs to those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
In a release issued yesterday, Mattress1One said they will donate $50,000 to the American Red Cross benefiting the victims of Hurricane Harvey and over 1000 mattresses and box springs, valued at over $300,000 to shelters in need throughout the affected areas of Texas.
Hurricane Harvey, which poured over 50 inches of rain in some areas of Texas, has led to historical flooding. Hundreds of thousands of homes have been devastated by Harvey and millions of people have been affected.
FEMA estimates that more than 30,000 people will be displaced from their homes and will need shelter and accommodations. Many of those displaced will require long term shelter due to the damage done to their residences. Mattress1One will donate the mattresses and box springs to shelters and churches that will be providing housing to those displaced by this tragic storm
Two of the Salem Brothers, owners of Mattress1One and long time Houston residents, said that during the many years they have lived in both the U.S. Virgin Islands and Florida, they had never witnessed a storm this destructive.
“This is by far the worst storm I’ve ever witnessed,” said Madhat Salem. “We understand that our beautiful city will take a long time to recover and we will be continuously searching for ways to help in the recovery.”
Shelters in need of mattresses can contact Mattress1One at caitie@mattress1.com for assistance.
Mattress1One has over 300 locations in the U.S., including 135 in the greater Houston area and promises to be a long-term partner in the relief efforts.
