Gallery Furniture Offers Shelter from Harvey

Houston-based furniture chain Gallery Furniture is opening its I-45 North location (between Tidwell and Parker) and the location in the Richmond area off Grand Parkway as shelters for Tropical Storm Harvey families, according to a release on Sunday.

The store is stocked with food, water, and mattresses in an effort to keep their “neighbors safe from the storm,” said owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale.

“Houstonians have a safe, dry place to take shelter at Gallery Furniture, so if they can get here they are welcome,” said McIngvale. “We hope to give them some comfort in this incredibly difficult time.”

McIngvale is already known in the area for special promotions and big-hearted moves, but this is a step beyond.

The store is also putting out a call for kennels to accommodate pets.
