Ashley Furniture has begun an expansion of its facility in Leesport, Pa., breaking ground this week on a 465,000 square-foot e-commerce fulfillment and distribution center.
The addition will boost the size of the Pennsylvania facility to 1.7 million square feet, and represents the first expansion at the site since it opened in 2004.
It also was the company’s second groundbreaking for an e-commerce fulfillment and distribution center in less than a month. In late June, Ashley broke ground for a similar facility in its hometown of Arcadia, Wis.
Both facilities are scheduled for completion in February 2018.
The company said the Leesport expansion will enhance its ability to fulfill e-commerce orders, which is a fast-growing segment of its business, and allow Ashley a better “speed to market” approach by storing more furniture onsite to better serve the region’s customers.
“This investment in our company today serves as an example to our commitment to customers across the globe,” said Todd Wanek, president and CEO of Ashley Furniture. “As the demand for faster deliveries of product is becoming more frequent in today’s market, this expansion allows our company to have additional space to service our customer base in a timelier fashion.”
Ashley’s factory in Leesport has about 1,300 employees.
