A Mississippi State interior design major is receiving national recognition from WithIt, the North Carolina-based organization that promotes the advancement of professional women in the home and furnishings industries.
Interior design major Natalie E. Watson is being honored with a $3,000 WithIt Foundation Academic Scholarship. She recently accepted the award during the WithIt awards banquet in Charleston, S.C.
This summer, Watson is pursuing a design internship at Office Interiors of Memphis in Memphis, Tenn. Last fall, she was among three MSU interior design majors who received scholarships from the Sunshine Chapter of NEWH: The Network of the Hospitality Industry, the nation’s premier networking resource for the hospitality industry.
Additionally, Watson is serving this year as president of the MSU interior design program’s student chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers.
Beth Miller, MSU professor and interior design program director, praised Watson for taking the initiative to complete the WithIt Foundation Academic Scholarship application process. Miller said she encourages all interior design students to apply for scholarships, internships and other opportunities that can enrich their MSU education, as well as prepare them for productive careers following graduation.
“We are excited and proud that Natalie seized this opportunity provided by the WithIt Foundation. The scholarship monies and recent trip to South Carolina will benefit her design education and her career,” Miller said.
Founded in 1997, the WithIt Foundation is a not-for-profit organization driven by its belief that women should play a major role in the growth and future of the home and furnishings industries.
WithIt established its scholarship foundation to recognize the academic endeavors of preeminent college students enrolled full time in fields of study that would logically lead to careers in the home and furnishings industries. Since 1999, the organization has awarded over $75,000 in scholarships to qualified young women from around the U.S.
