Fast Fact While the growth rate for existing home sales slowed in 2016, unit sales approached levels attained prior to the Great Recession, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Association of Realtors.

New home sales, meanwhile, remained well below pre-recession levels, despite a 11.3% increase from 2016.
