Report: Barclay Fryery Book Launch, 'Cancer Looks Good on You'
June 28,
2017 by Jane Chero in Designer Weekly, Industry, Special Events
Fryery, who also was a lifestyle expert, TV host and columnist, died at his home in Meridian, Miss., on May 26. He was 56.
Fryery lived in Greenwich for two decades and it is there that he established himself as one of the top interior designers in the country.
Greenwich is the setting for most of the book. “Cancer Looks Good on You: Barclay’s Guide to Cultivating Style, Sanity, Silliness and Self-Love — in Sickness and in Health.” It is a collaboration with author Jill Johnson, and was written during the last two months of Barclay’s life.
The book is the story of a man who chooses to seize the day, not count how many days he has left. From his youth as a tormented gay boy in the Deep South to his rise to the top of the design world, and from discovering a lump in his neck to planning his after-party, Barclay tackles life’s challenges with grace, humor, and optimism. The book shares wisdom on home makeovers, attitude, and a view of the end.
The profits from the special edition hardcover book will benefit Barclay’s vision of creating a charity focused on teen suicide prevention and supporting LGBTQ youth. The paperback and e-book will be released in early July.
There is no fee to attend the launch.
