FastFact: February Continues to Lead Tax Refund Season

February remains the biggest month of “tax refund season,” with almost half the money paid out for the entire 2016 calendar year getting into consumers’ hands that month, according to new data from the Internal Revenue Service.
Of the $318 billion in refunds issued last year, the IRS said $142 billion was paid in February. The next largest month was March at $60.8 billion, followed by April at $42 billion.
