Rent-A-Center Fund-Raising Campaign Nets $114K for Food Bank

Rent-to-own major Rent-A-Center (NASDAQ: RCII) capped off a month-long fund-raising effort with a $114,000 donation to the North Texas Food Bank

The donation included $64,000 raised by employees and $50,000 donated by the company. The employee campaign included events such as a hula-hoop contest, a raffle, and a ping-pong tournament.

The company said Rent-A-Center employees have been supporting the food bank since 2003, and this year’s donation brought the total to more than $1 million raised in the past 14 years.

According to the North Texas Food Bank, there are more than 835,000 food insecure people across its 13-county service area -- including one in every four children.

“Year after year, the entire team at Rent-A-Center showcases such enthusiasm and passion for the mission of the North Texas Food Bank,” said Simon Powell, interim president and CEO of the food bank. “As we embark on the hungriest season, we know that there will be many children and families that will face tightened budgets. We know these generous funds from Rent- A-Center employees will help us in the important mission of putting food on the table for people in need.”

The food bank is a nonprofit hunger-relief organization with its primary distribution center in Southwest Dallas, and administrative headquarters located in the Dallas Farmers Market. NTFB provides access to more than 190,000 meals for hungry children, seniors, and families through a network of more than 1,000 programs and more than 200 Partner Agencies.
