Big Sandy Superstores to Add Two Stores in Central Ohio

Big Sandy Superstores plans to open two additional locations in central Ohio later this year, boosting the retailer’s presence in the Columbus, Ohio area.

The retailer said its newest stores will open this fall in Zanesville and Heath, Ohio. The Zanesville location is a former HH Gregg store, while the Heath store will be an anchor tenant in Indian Mound Mall in space once occupied by Steve & Barry’s, an apparel chain that filed bankruptcy and went out of business in 2009.

HH Gregg filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year and is in the process of closing all of its stores.

The 2017 expansion will give Big Sandy 17 stores in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, and comes on the heels of two stores that were opened in the Columbus area last year.

“The Columbus, Ohio, area and central Ohio, in general, has been under-served for many years,” said Robert Vanhoose, CEO of the regional retailer. “Our ‘Superstore Experience’ sets us apart from other retailers. Nowhere else can you find everything you need to furnish your home under one roof.”

The retailer carries furniture, mattresses, appliances and HDTVs. Vanhoose said the two stores that were opened in the Columbus area last year will soon be adding premium appliance departments called Kitchens. Inspired. Those departments will feature higher-end appliance brands such as Thermador, Bosch, Jenn Air, Monogram, Marvel and Kitchenaid.
