Jordan’s Furniture Honors Graduating Foster Children

More than 225 Massachusetts foster children who are graduating from high school this year were honored Sunday night by Jordan’s Furniture at a banquet and awards program that included a screening of the newly released movie “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

The event, which took place in the Imax Theater at Jordan’s Reading, Mass., store, drew hundreds more family members and social workers from across the commonwealth.

"This is our 15th year hosting this special event. Each year, it gets bigger and bigger", said Eliot Tatelman, Jordan’s president and CEO. "We are thrilled to continue the tradition of honoring the youth. It is important to acknowledge the academic achievements of these great kids, many who have made it through some adverse conditions. It is our way to show our support for them."

The program included a video highlighting many of the honored youth, guest speakers with inspirational messages, and gifts for the graduates. Each honored youth received a sports bag, a Red Sox long-sleeve tee-shirt, a Target store gift card, and Imax Theater tickets, along with a "certificate of accomplishment.”

Among those in attendance was Linda Spears, commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.

"I am so proud of all of our graduates who have pushed through some very difficult times to finish their education," said Spears. "Being able to celebrate with peers and the foster parents and social workers who support them in reaching their goals is very special. DCF is grateful to Eliot and his team for their commitment to this wonderful event year after year."
