Furniture, housewares and accessories retailer Crate & Barrel has named Neela Montgomery as its new CEO, effective Aug. 1.
Montgomery, 42, has been an executive board member at Otto Group, the retailer’s parent company, since November 2014. Earlier, she spent 12 years at retailer Tesco Plc in a variety of leadership roles, including chief merchant for Tesco Malaysia and general merchandise director for Tesco in the United Kingdom.
She will replace Doug Diemoz, a former Restoration Hardware executive who left Crate & Barrel last month after about two years as CEO.
At Hamburg, Germany-based Otto Group, her responsibilities included oversight of Crate & Barrel.
“I respect Neela Montgomery’s decision to lead a company under her responsibility,” said Michael Otto, chairman of the Otto Group supervisory board. “Though we will miss her strategic and creative force on the group executive board, Crate and Barrel gains a passionate global leader.”
“Crate and Barrel is a strong brand, a great company and a team of wonderful people,” Montgomery said. "I am looking forward to developing the company further by taking over not only strategic, but now also operational responsibility.”
