RoomPlace Makes $1 Million Pledge to Fire Houses, Charities

One year after its 320,000-square-foot warehouse was destroyed by fire, The RoomPlace celebrated the opening of a new, larger warehouse with a $1 million pledge to charities and local firehouses in the Chicago and Indianapolis markets, where it operates more than 20 stores.

The donations were made under the retailer’s $1 Million Community Care Pledge umbrella, and much of it was spent to honor firefighters and other first responders by placing new furniture in firehouses.

“We are grateful for the continued support that the local community has shown us, not only following last year’s fire, but throughout our entire 100-year history,” said Paul Adams, CEO of The RoomPlace. “As a local, family-owned business, we place strong value on giving back to the areas where we work and live, and The RoomPlace $1 Million Community Care Pledge is our way of expressing our gratitude to these extraordinary organizations.”

Adams noted that 50 employees were working at the warehouse when the fire started, but none were injured because of quick actions of numerous area fire departments who battled the multi-alarm blaze.

The recent donations marked the second straight year the retailer has pledged $1 million to charities in the markets where it has stores.
