Pratt Institute Undergrad Wins Scott Morgan Scholarship

Audrey Krumenacker, an undergraduate student at Pratt Institute in New York City, was presented with a $5,000 check as the third recipient of the Scott Morgan Design Scholarship.

Krumenacker, a bachelor of industrial design degree candidate for Spring 2018 with a minor in sustainability studies, is from Wynnewood, Pa.

The selection committee cited Krumenacker’s creativity and sensible solutions to problem- solving, coupled with her ability to execute a versatile use of materials.

“Audrey’s portfolio included multiple unique applications of material choices to satisfy a variety of design challenges and demonstrated her ability to work well in different medians,” said Bruce Hirschhaut, a member of the scholarship board. “We look forward to seeing more strong design work from Audrey as she continues her design studies and career.”

The scholarship fund was created shortly before designer Scott Morgan’s death in September 2013 as a vehicle for business colleagues, friends and family to honor his contributions to the home furnishings industry.

Intended to fuel the passion for home furnishings product design and development embodied in Morgan’s nearly 40-year career in contemporary furniture design, the scholarship also reflects the longtime support and mentoring he gave to aspiring young furniture designers.

Contemporary furnishings producer BDI helped to kick off donations to the fund with a generous initial contribution that was later fueled by backing from American Leather plus other notable individuals and companies.
