Vanguard Recalls Chest of Drawers Due to Tip-Over Hazard

Vanguard Furniture has voluntarily recalled a chest of drawers from its Compendium Collection due to a potential tip-over or entrapment hazard for children if they are not anchored to a wall.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the bow front chests do not meet the voluntary industry standard for tip-overs, although no incidents or injuries have been reported.

The CPSC said the eight-drawer chests weigh about 250 pounds and measure 36 inches high, 20 inches deep and 75 inches wide. About 170 of the units were sold between August 2015 and February 2017.

The agency said tip restraint kits were included with each unit, but said consumers should immediately stop using any recalled chests that are not properly anchored to a wall and place them in an area not accessible by children.

Consumers should contact Vanguard at 800-968-1702 or customerservice@vanguardfurniture.com to arrange for a free, in-home installation of a repair kit. The CPSC said Vanguard also is contacting known purchasers directly.
