Kevin Kauffman, co-founder and owner of case goods and occasional furniture producer Simply Amish, has received an award from the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore to recognize the company's long-running licensing program with the museum.
Simply Amish licenses the B&O name for a collection of bedroom, dining room and occasional furniture that features angles and arches saluting the iconic railroad.
"The royalties received through our licensing program have been invaluable," said Courtney Wilson, executive director of the museum. "We can't thank him enough for his philanthropic work."
Kauffman also was given a wooden pen made of wood reclaimed from a steam locomotive that was destroyed in a roof collapse at the museum.
"Many of our Amish craftsmen travel longer distances by rail," Kauffman said. "We're all rail fans who marvel at the Western expansion of America, which was greatly aided by 19th century railroads."
