Retailer Walker Furniture has confirmed plans to build a second "superstore" in the Las Vegas market, and said it hopes to break ground for the facility in September or October.
The company said it has completed the purchase of a 14-acre site southwest of the city near Interstate 215 and Sunset Road. The site is adjacent to an Ikea store.
“People have been asking us for years to build another store in addition to our main location on MLK where business is thriving,” said Larry Alterwitz, CEO of Walker Furniture. “I feel the city is ripe for another location. The new superstore, together with our downtown superstore, will make us ultra-convenient to the whole city.”
Tentative plans call for the site to include a 150,000-square-foot Walker's store and an additional 50,000 square feet of space for other retail stores and restaurants.
Walker's existing store occupies about 150,000 square feet in downtown Las Vegas.
