Product Recalls Issued for Dressers, Swivel Patio Chairs
February 1,
2017 by Larry Thomas in Designer Weekly, Industry, Legal
The Bolton recall involves dressers that CPSC says pose a serious tip-over and entrapment hazard, while the Brown Jordan Services and Casual Living products are swivel patio chairs with a defective base that can break during normal use, according to CPSC.
The Bolton recall involves two-over-two style 4-drawer dressers. Models included in the recall are Cambridge 8614, Emma 8314, Essex 6614, Wakefield 8014 and Woodridge 8414. The dressers were sold in cherry, chestnut, espresso, honey, ivory, natural, and white. Model names and numbers can be found on the QC/production sticker located on back of the dresser.
The CPSC said it has not received any reports of injuries, but said the dressers do not meet the ASTM tip-over standards. Therefore, consumers should immediately stop using any recalled dresser that is not properly anchored to the wall and place it into an area that children cannot access.
Consumers should contact Bolton Furniture at 800-545-8982 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for a free retrofit kit.
Consumers can install the retrofit kit or the tip-restraint strap sold with the dressers themselves, or contact Bolton who will provide a one-time, free in-home installation, the agency said.
The recall involves about 1,000 units that were sold at furniture stores and online retailers from February 2011 and October 2016.
The swivel patio chairs from Casual Living were sold exclusively by Home Depot between January 2007 and February 2016. The agency said about 2 million units were sold in the U.S., in addition to about 30,000 in Canada and 14,000 in Mexico.
CPSC said it had received 25 reports of the chairs breaking, resulting in bruises and scrapes to consumes who fell.
The agency said consumers should immediately stop using the chairs and contact Casual Living Worldwide at 855-899-2127 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Monday through Friday for a free repair kit.
The Brown Jordan Services recall involves about 1,500 units that were sold exclusively at Sears under the La-Z-Boy Kayla brand name between January and July 2016. The chairs have dark blue fabric cushions.
The CPSC said it had received 16 reports of the chairs breaking, but no reports of injuries
