SunBelt Xpress Acquires Northwest Furniture Express

Specialized furniture carrier SunBelt Xpress has acquired Northwest Furniture Express, which services furniture accounts in the Pacific Northwest and parts of western Canada.

SunBelt officials said the acquisition will allow the company, which services 33 states, to expand its service into areas covered by Northwest.

“Since its inception in 1978 as Four Truckers, the leadership of what is now Northwest Furniture Express has successfully focused on providing market leading and innovative transportation services to the home furnishings industry,” SunBelt said in a statement announcing the purchase. “SunBelt looks forward to expanding on NWFX’s success and providing additional resources to propel their growth in services and market share.”

The purchase price was not disclosed.

Northwest Furniture Express President Eric Clarke is joining SunBelt as vice president of its newly created Northwest Division. In addition, SunBelt said Northwest executives Ann Flynn and Grant Laidlaw will be joining Sunbelt in customer service and sales positions.

SunBelt is based in Hickory, N.C., and has additional terminals in Greensboro, N.C., Fontana, Calif., and Dallas. The acquisition gives the company an additional facility in the Seattle suburb of Fife, Wash.

SunBelt is a subsidiary of ATS Inc., the 37th largest for-hire carrier in the United States.
