Report: Former Furniture Retailer Admits Faking Own Death

Jose Lantigua, the former owner of Circle K Furniture in Jacksonville, Fla., plead guilty Tuesday to fraud charges and admitted in federal court that he faked his own death in order to collect life insurance proceeds.
A report in the Florida Times-Union said Lantigua, who told friends he had mad cow disease and was reported to have died in South America several years ago, faces up to 50 years in prison, but prosecutors agreed to seek a lighter sentence.
