14th Annual Seena Magowitz Golf Classic Heads to Boston

Golfers and guests participating in the upcoming 14th annual Seena Magowitz Golf Classic this summer will get a full taste of Beantown including an evening at Fenway Park, a gala event on the Boston Harbor and golf at the renowned Tedesco Country Club.

The annual multi-million-dollar fundraiser, supporting pancreatic cancer research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute is making its first appearance in Boston and is set for Aug. 27-29.

David Dombrowski, President of Baseball Operations for the Boston Red Sox, is this year’s honorary chairman for the Magowitz Golf Classic. The game during the Classic will pit the Red Sox against the reigning World Series Champion Kansas City Royals. The game’s ceremonial first pitch will be auctioned online this month to raise additional research funds. In addition to the first pitch, attendees can bid for a behind-the-scenes meet and greet in the Red Sox announcer’s booth prior to the game.

Dombrowski is a member of TGen’s Pancreatic Cancer National Advisory Council, a group of business leaders who work with the TGen Foundation to raise funds for research and clinical trials for pancreatic cancer.

More than 250 golfers and guests are expected to take part in the weekend, which has become a traditional event for the home furnishings industry. Previously held in Phoenix and Orlando, Fla., the Seena Magowitz Golf Classic has raised more than $7 million over the years to support pancreatic cancer research.

“Hosting the Golf Classic in Boston will open up new opportunities to raise awareness surrounding pancreatic cancer throughout New England and the upper Atlantic seaboard,” said Roger Magowitz, founder of the Seena Magowitz Foundation named for his mother. Seena Magowitz passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2001 only months after her diagnosis.

The event’s host hotel, The Boston Harbor Hotel, will be the venue for dinner Sunday, Aug. 28, and the golf tournament will be held Monday, Aug. 29.

The Seen Magowitz Foundation, previous Golf Classic Honorary Chairman Gary Fazio, Mattress Firm executives and employees and Leggett & Platt president Karl Glassman have provided support for an ongoing series of clinical trials that build on TGen’s previous success in setting the nation’s standard for treating pancreatic cancer.

Prospective sponsors, participants and dinner attendees may contact Roger Magowitz via e-mail at roger@seenmagowitzfoundation.org or by phone at (602) 524-7636. Registration and sponsorship opportunities are available online at www.SeenaMagowitzFoundation.org.

The Seena Magowitz Foundation is committed to advancing the awareness and eventual prevention and cure of pancreatic cancer. The Foundation is dedicated to funding top medical institutions on the leading edge of translational pancreatic cancer research committed to diagnosis, the advancement of life-extending treatment options and the ultimate goal of eradicating this deadly killer.
