AHFA Board meets with Regulatory Officials and Members of Congress at Gov’t Affairs Meeting

Members of the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA) Board of Directors recently met with key regulatory officials and members of Congress, including Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Paul Ryan, during the organization’s annual government affairs meeting in Washington, D.C.
AHFA Board Members raised issues pertaining to Formaldehyde regulation, upholstered furniture flammability and the voluntary furniture stability standard during the two-day meeting.
“AHFA organizes an annual government affairs meeting to ensure that industry executives have face-time every year with key regulators and legislators,” said AHFA CEO Andy Counts. “AHFA continues providing the technical expertise and leadership needed to achieve positive outcomes for our industry on issues that impact manufacturers’ day-to-day operations. We must continually remind key legislators that our industry still represents tens of thousands of U.S. jobs and more than $100 billion in consumer product purchases each year.”
The AHFA Board Members were later joined by retail executives from the Home Furnishings Association (HFA) for a morning of presentations by members of Congress. Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI), Richard Burr (R-NC) and Thom Tillis (R-NC), as well as Representative Trent Kelly (R-MS) addressed the group as well, along with Chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Elliot Kaye, and Senior Director of the American Chemistry Council, Sarah Brozena.
