IIDA Interior Design Competition Winners To Be Honored

The International Interior Design Association competition, honors projects that encourage new ideas in the design and furnishing of interior spaces.

The big news this year is that winners will not be determined by project type. However, the Will Ching Design Competition continues to recognize originality and excellence in commercial design from firms with five or few employees.

Submissions were judged by a jury of three based in the U.S.;
Mari Balestrazzi, Hyatt Hotels Vice President of Design, Anne Cunningham, NBBJ Principal, and Scott Hierlinger, Nelson Design Director.

The trio made their selections based on considerations of suitability and originality. Interior Design editors had identified those qualities as well – previously publishing two of the IIDA winners: Gensler’s New York regional headquarters for Capital One and Newell Rubbermaid in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the last major project from Hall of Fame member Eva Maddox, retired principal at Perkins + Will.

All seven will be honored on June 12 at the IIDA’s black-tie Cool gala, which kicks off at the NeoCon trade fair.
