Calhoun, Ga.-based Surya employees, friends and family members will participate in the 2016 March for Babies, an annual walk scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 6 in Cartersville, Ga.
The March for Babies program, sponsored by the March of Dimes, was created to support moms in having healthy, full-term pregnancies while also raising awareness of premature birth, and generating funds to research causes and preventions. Premature birth is the leading cause of infant death in the United States, where one in 10 babies enters the world too soon.
“At Surya, we are dedicated to furthering the well-being of children and their families,” said Satya Tiwari, president of Surya. “Through our Miles for Meals initiative, we’ve seen firsthand the powerful difference that can be made when communities come together for a common cause. As a new father of healthy twin boys, I know how crucial prenatal care is for a healthy mother and child. We’re excited to participate in this important event and help to create a better future for Georgia families.”
Babies who survive an early birth may experience lifelong health problems such as cerebral palsy, vision and hearing loss, and learning disabilities. According to physicians, at least 50 percent of premature births are preventable if a woman receives prenatal care.
