Art Van Furniture Buys Hillside

2016 by in Acquisition, Industry
Hillside’s 46,000-square-foot store will continue to operate under the Hillside name and will retain its contemporary merchandising strategy.
Under the terms of the agreement with Bruce Selik, Hillside founder and former owner, Art Van will hire Hillside’s associates and Jeff Selik, Bruce Selik’s son, who will be general manager of the business.
"Hillside Furniture has been one of metro Detroit's most respected names in contemporary home furnishings for many years," said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture. "This acquisition is a wonderful opportunity for us to serve new customers, and we're honored to be entrusted with the brand Bruce has worked so hard to build."
Hillside will retain its focus on contemporary home furnishings, and will add an Art Van PureSleep Mattress Gallery to the location.
"Hillside has been my passion for the last four decades, but it was time for a change as I decided to retire,” said Bruce Selik. “Our family took great care in identifying the right company to partner with for a successful future. We were drawn to Art Van Furniture largely because of its reputation as an iconic furniture retailer and corporate steward throughout the Midwest, and I am confident our customers are in the best hands. They will continue to find the exclusive contemporary furniture in our store that they have been accustomed to throughout the years."
Art Van has 56 furniture showrooms throughout Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois and operates 41 freestanding Art Van PureSleep mattress stores. The company also operates Art Van Flooring and Scott Shuptrine Interiors.
"This is a real win for the consumer," said Kim Yost, CEO of Art Van Furniture. "Guests will enjoy all the same selection, quality and service with the added buying power of Art Van to ensure great value."
