FurnitureDealer Rolls out Mobile Responsive Platform

Internet services provider FurnitureDealer.net has upgraded all of its retail clients in the premium network to responsive web designs making the web sites more mobile-friendly.

The changeover is being rolled out to retailers free of charge.

“Mobile devices have become increasingly important to furniture shoppers,” said Joe Craddock, president and chief technology officer for FurnitureDealer.net. “Over half the visits to our network of retailer websites come from mobile devices, including two-thirds from smartphones and one-third from tablets.”

The company’s responsive website platform detects visitors’ devices and automatically resizes and reformats content to fit on the screen.

“The website visitor can easily read the page content without needing to pinch, zoom or tap their screen,” Craddock said. “The content, layout and navigation are optimized for whatever device the visitor uses.”

Last year, Google searches on mobile devices surpassed searches on personal computers for the first time. The tech giant responded by rolling out its mobile-friendly update that rewards mobile-friendly web pages by boosting their ranking on mobile search results. The change also penalizes pages that aren’t mobile-friendly by making them harder to find when searching on a mobile device.

“The new responsive platform is part of our commitment to ensure our clients remain on the leading edge of technology,” said Andy Bernstein, founder of FurnitureDealer.net. “We made the significant investment to upgrade our clients at no cost because we believe it’s critical for retailers to deliver a superior user experience for their website visitors on any sized screen. It was an enormous challenge to complete all the work by the end of the year. I’m proud of our team for getting it done.”
