Swedish home furnishings retailer Ikea has moved one step closer to building a store in Fishers, Ind.
The city council there approved the company’s plans to build a store in the town outside of Indianapolis.
Pending remaining approvals and permits, construction could begin this fall with an anticipated opening in the fall of 2017.
The proposed 296,000-square-foot store will be built on 35 acres near Interstate 69.
“Ikea is thrilled and honored by the support from Fishers officials and staff in favor of our building a store in their entrepreneurial and vibrant city,” said Lars Petersson, U.S. president for the retailer. “Opening Ikea Fishers will bring the unique Ikea shopping experience closer to Indiana shoppers who have not been to an Ikea store or are not able to visit us frequently.”
