Art Van Collects Water for Flint, Mich. Residents

Art Van Furniture has jumped into help with the Flint, Mich., water crisis by teaming with a local television station to collect and deliver bottles of water to those in need.
The water drive started Tuesday afternoon at all Art Van Furniture stores in metro Detroit. Art Van delivery trucks will transport the collected water to Flint weekly as long as the need exists.
Tap water in Flint, Mich., was contaminated with to much lead after the city switched its water supply in 2014 to save money.
"Having clean, safe water is fundamental for the health and well-being of every individual," said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture. "It is essential for all of us to do what we can to ease the extraordinary emotional and physical toll the water crisis has taken on the fine residents of Flint. All of us at Art Van Furniture and Local 4 are committing to help those in need, and know that the communities we serve will join us in this necessary effort."
The collected bottles of water will be warehoused and distributed to residents by Catholic Charities of Shiawassee & Genesee Counties. The organization, which also serves up to 800 meals a day at its three soup kitchens, and has been using bottled water to
