Home sales tend to follow the ups and downs of consumer confidence.
If consumers aren’t confident in the economy and the future, they are certainly not going to put down an outlay of cash to buy a home.
New home sales dropped along with consumer confidence during the Recession, taking nearly two years to bottom once confidence returned. New home sales dropped 61 percent from 2007 to 2011.
Housing starts and new home sales are now on a steady increase and have grown 68 percent since 2011.
