RoomStore Looks to Return to Normal Operations

Home furnishings retailer RoomStore is looking to return to normal operations this week under the guidance of the U.S. Bankruptcy court.

The RoomStore chain of furniture outlets said it's now issuing some customer refunds and working to fulfill orders after a bankruptcy filing last week in Arizona, with a top executive saying he hoped the company would be operating normally by the weekend.

Alan Levitz, general manager of The RoomStores of Phoenix LLC, said he hoped it would be business as usual by this weekend after scheduled closings for Christmas Eve and Christmas. The company, which counts around 350 employees, hasn't announced plans to close any of its 11 leased full-line stores in Arizona or a clearance center in Mesa.

Some orders from factories have been delayed, Levitz acknowledged in an interview with The Republic, adding that he anticipated having the majority of orders filled within the next two or three weeks.
