Ikea Gets Approval for Texas Store

Ikea got the thumbs up for its planned second store in the Dallas-Fort Worth Market.

The retailer said its store in Grand Prairie, Texas, is scheduled to open in the fall of 2017. The city council there approved the retailer’s plans for the store.

The next step is to secure pending approvals and permits. Once those are in place, Ikea will start construction by fall of 2016 on the store.

The planned 297,000-square-foot store will be located 14 miles west of downtown Dallas and 18 miles east of downtown Fort Worth.

“Ikea is thrilled and honored at the support from Grand Prairie officials and staff in favor of our building a store in their city,” said Lars Petersson, Ikea U.S. president. “Opening Ikea Grand Prairie will help bring the unique shopping experience closer to many North Texas shoppers who have not yet been to our Frisco store or do not visit it frequently.”
