Orbit XXL Named Best of Year - Best in 10 Design Award

Furniture designer Richard Frinier’s Orbit XXL rotating daybed and lounger has been named best outdoor furniture design over the past decade after winning a “Best of Year - Best in 10” award from Interior Design magazine.
To heighten the anticipation of the magazine celebrating its 10th year of bestowing its Best of Year design awards in product design and also architectural and interior design projects, Interior Design added a new category of design awards along with its Best of Year awards, called the Best of Year - Best in 10.
Winners of the best designs of the past decade were determined by the magazine’s jury and its following of architects, interior designers and trade designers who voted online for their favorite creations.
The Orbit XXL, manufactured by Dedon, won the “Best of Year - Best in 10” award in the outdoor furniture product category during a gathering of nearly 1,000 design industry leaders, icons and luminaries at the Frank Gehry IAC Building in New York City earlier this month. Cindy Allen, editor in chief of Interior Design and her colleague Carol Cisco, publisher, announced the winners at a cocktail event. Honorees and winners were able to view all of the final entries from all categories projected from floor to ceiling and across the entire length of the hall.
"The original Orbit and Orbit XXL forever changed the landscape of the outdoor furniture industry, because people started viewing their outdoor living areas a little differently after seeing how they could design private getaways at home just by adding an Orbit daybed into their space,” Frinier said. “People tell us how the design makes them feel amazing. They smile when they first see it and it transforms their spirits once they relax into the daybed and any cares of their day simply disappear. It's easy to understand why they feel this way, when you are reclining into a plushly oversized, circular and rotational, beautifully woven daybed/lounger with a retractable and removable canopy. It is truly escapism at its best.”
Dedon’s concealed skate wheels make rotating in the Orbit XXL and Orbit daybeds easy and provide the user with a unique, 360-degree view.
