Smith Leonard: Furniture Orders Flat

Furniture orders for the month of September were flat, according to the latest data from accounting and financial services firm Smith Leonard.
Orders for the latest month available totaled $2.28 billion, flat with the same month last year. Month-to-month sales increased 9.2 percent from $2.08 billion in August.
Nearly half of the survey respondents reported an increase in orders year over year, compared with 56 percent reporting the same last month.
“Overall, we continue to hear business described as choppy,” said Ken Smith, audit partner and director of furniture services for Smith Leonard. “Most we have talked with seem to have confirmed that the October market was a good one. Yet, we continue to hear that business is at best OK.”
