Farooq Kathwari, chairman, president and CEO of Ethan Allen, was recently recognized for his support of The Hebrew Home at Riverdale by RiverSpring Health, a nursing facility.
“I am humbled to receive this honor from an organization whose mission I admire and which works so tirelessly for the community," Kathwari said.
The foundation's board of trustees bestowed the honor at the Hebrew Home's 98th annual black-tie gala, held in the Grand Ballroom at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. The chairs of the event were Sanford Weill, chairman emeritus, Citigroup, Inc. and Maurice R. Greenberg, chairman and CEO, C.V. Starr & Co., Inc. With 600 people in attendance, it was The Hebrew Home’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The event raised $2.1 million.
“Farooq Kathwari was selected as The Hebrew Home at Riverdale’s honoree for his humanitarian efforts around the globe and because he shares The Hebrew Home at Riverdale’s vision of respect and care for older adults,” said Daniel Reingold, president and CEO of Hebrew Home.
Kathwari is active in several nonprofit organizations, including the National Retail Federation, Refugees International, the International Rescue Committee, and the Council on Foreign Relations, among others. Additionally, he served as a member of President Obama’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders from 2010 to 2014.
