FastFact: Furniture Imports from China Continue to Increase

The Chinese furniture industry is getting a boost in its hold on the U.S. from the recent devaluation of the Yuan.

China’s exports to the United States have grown to more than 60 percent of total U.S. imports. That’s up 20.6 points from 2002 through the second quarter of this year. Furniture imports from China have grown 52.4 percent to $14 billion since the peak of the recession in 2009.

When analyzing the furniture imports to the U.S., Canada’s decline coincides with the increase in goods imported from Vietnam. Vietnamese imports jumped from 0.5 percent to 10.9 percent in the last 13 years. Canada, however, dropped from 18.3 percent in 2002 to 5.5 percent in the second quarter of 2015.
