Samson Marketing Promotes Breast Cancer Awareness

Samson Marketing marked Breast Cancer Awareness last month with a series of events slugged Celebrate Survivors to help promote awareness and education.

Breast Cancer awareness is the corporate cause of Samson Marketing that includes Universal Furniture,  Legacy Classic/Legacy Classic KidsCraftmaster, Samson International, and Lacquer Craft Hospitality. Each year, October is filled with events and fundraising activities that center around education, awareness, advocacy and support. Legacy Classic adopted this cause  in the early 2000s, with Samson’s other brands located in the Triad joining the crusade in 2009.

This year’s events included a decorating competition in different geographic areas of the building. Grab bags were created with various materials and those materials had to be used. The only other thing groups could use were office supplies located in the building. Bragging rights were given under the hashtags #celebratesurvivors and #samsonstrong. 

“The creativity shown around the building was a little bit of a surprise to me,” said Nancy Le, human resources manager. “There is a lot of talent that we don’t always get to see in our regular daily activities throughout our organization. It was amazing. I definitely was touched by a couple of the displays in particular.”

During the kickoff, one of Universal’s cancer survivors, Glennett Morning spoke, and balloons were given out for anyone who wanted to honor a survivor or loved one.  Samson Marketing also annually incorporates a corporate mammography day for those who want to participate, and a luncheon for those who do.

The honored guest speaker this year was Madeline O’Connor, wife of Kevin O’Connor, former president of Samson Marketing, and herself a breast cancer survivor.  Additional events helped raise money to provide free mammograms for people outside the company that may be uninsured or unable to afford one.

“A lot of time, effort, and passion is put into the events every year,” said Larry Cryan, vice president of operations. “We have a great employee committee that has given so much time and came up with really imaginative ideas these last couple of years. It just keeps getting better and better.”
