NC Court Rules for Zuo in Showroom Dispute

A court in North Carolina has ruled in favor of furniture distributor Zuo Modern Contemporary in a dispute over High Point Market showroom space.
Kinwai Furniture sued both Zuo and the International Home Furnishings Center last year saying IHFC had breached the lease agreement by moving Kinwai out of its fifth floor location to relocate Zuo.
The court opinion, signed Oct. 22, said Kinwai presented no evidence that Zuo had acted unlawfully. "Zuo's efforts to obtain Kinwai's showroom space in order to expand its own showroom were not wrongful or unlawful,” according to the opinion.
"We are very pleased with the court's ruling and look forward to continuing to return to the High Point market in our renovated space," said Luis Ruesga, CEO of Zuo.
John Kirke, lead counsel for Zuo, called the ruling a “complete victory” for the company.
The court also granted IHFC summary judgment on Kinwai's claims against it.
