Gorman’s Readies 3-Day Clearance Center

Gorman’s Home Furnishings and Interior Design will open its Gorman’s Three Day Clearance Center next week.

The clearance center will be open each week on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and will feature floor samples, extra inventory, custom cancellations and other products. The opening is set for Friday, Nov. 6. The items will be discounted up to 70 percent.

The store also will feature a large Oriental rug department, which will be maintained by International Rug Group and have more than 400 pieces from 25 vendors.

Following Gorman’s Fall Warehouse Sale in late September, the retailer began renovations at the adjacent 12,000-square-foot space. During construction, which is expected to cost $200,000, part of a wall between the warehouse and new clearance center was torn down and additions were made including window treatments, flooring and chandeliers.

“We have been waiting for an opportunity like this since we opened the warehouse,” said Tom Lias, president of Gorman’s. “When the space was vacated, we pounced on it immediately and have been working hard to get it ready so our customers can take advantage of the best deals from our top 100 brands. In addition to product and marketing expansions we are undertaking, the creation of Gorman’s Three Day Clearance Center will make us even more competitive for 2016.”

Gorman’s has operated clearance centers in previous warehouses for nearly 15 years. When the company purchased its current facility 10 years ago, it moved all clearance center items into the Southfield, Novi and Lakeside showrooms. Those areas at the stores are now being developed into other concepts.
