FastFact: Imports Grow Despite Devalued Yuan

China hopes to keep its sluggish economy from a further slowdown by making its exports less expensive.
China currently controls 60.8 percent of household furniture imports to the U.S., and cheaper imports could likely boost that hold.
U.S. imports and exports of furniture have been on the increase since the recent recession. In 2014, imports totaled $23.8 billion at wholesale, or about 74 percent, of U.S. furniture and bedding sales compared to 62 percent in 2007, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Between 2002 and 2007, U.S. imports climbed to 53.6 percent and then dropped 24.3 percent by 2009. Since 2009, furniture imports have increased to 53.1 percent last year.
