From Home Furnishing Business

Caracole Names New President

Caracole has named furniture industry veteran Scott Smith president.

Currently, Smith is president of merchandising for Markor Furnishings Retail, the Chinese division of Markor International Home Furnishings. Smith has hale the post for more than three years. Smith previously served, at the vice presidential level, in various areas of the industry, including sales management, product development and merchandising for Lexington Furniture, Drexel Heritage, Legacy Classic and Klaussner Home Furnishings

In his new position, Smith will focus on the company's domestic growth, as well as the expansion of Caracole's international distribution. Additional responsibilities will include spearheading the company’s stated emphasis on consumer marketing and streamlining operational efficiencies through multiple technology initiatives. Smith will transition from his current role with parent company, Markor, to his new position at Caracole, effective immediately.

“Scott brings to Caracole a rather unique combination of U.S. and international executive experience that portends well for Caracole,” said Jeff Young, CEO. “His most recent involvement, and his contributions to the growth and progress of Markor’s multifaceted retail domain, uniquely position him to push Caracole well beyond its current boundaries. We at Caracole intend to continue to delight our audiences with unique, luxurious products while we simultaneously ‘ramp-up’ our consumer brand marketing.  Scott’s valuable manufacturing and retail experience, coupled with the company's global marketing perspective, constitute significant value that will extend to the core of our business and our global strategy.”

Young has been CEO of the company since Markor acquired Schnadig in 2009. He has guided the evolution of the Caracole brand to its current position in the marketplace.  He will remain in his role as Caracole's CEO and will ensure a smooth management transition for the company and its customers. The reorganization will allow Young to focus on the creative side of the business and to enhance the company’s expanding product portfolio.

“Under the leadership of Jeff Young, and through the efforts of the entire organization, the Caracole family of brands has become established as a true fashion leader, known for innovative and exciting home furnishings products,” Smith said. “In the few short years since its beginnings as part of the Markor Group, Caracole has built an impressive foundation, executing the shared vision of Markor Chairman Richard Feng and Jeff Young. Together we will continue to build and expand the Caracole business. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to join the Caracole team and look forward to our very exciting future together with our entire organization.”
