Neil Zimmer, vice president and general merchandise manager for Sleepy’s is the recipient of the 2015 Jerry Gans Memorial Award.
The award, given by the Greater Metropolitan Furnishings Association, honors an individual within the home furnishings industry who stands out for their deeds and service to the industry. Zimmer will accept the award Nov. 21 at an event held at The Palisadium in Cliffside Park, N.J.
“It’s an honor to be this year’s recipient of the Gans Award,” Zimmer said. “The GMFA members are my peers and family. They've been my partners from the time I owned a small business on Staten Island to my current position of vice president-GMM at Sleepy's.”
Prior to joining Sleepy’s, Zimmer held management positions with Huffman Koos and Fortunoff.
“Neil is one of the smartest guys in the furniture business, and also one of the nicest,” said current GMFA president Andy Gans. “He’s a merchandising genius, and has always lent his support to good causes. The Gans award, named for my father Jerry Gans, is given to people who give honor and dignity to their profession. I can’t think of anyone more deserving.”
In addition to Zimmer’s honor, GMFA will recognize Lenny Kharitonov and Tom Corrales with the Howard Liveright Award.
“Together, Tom and Lenny own and operate wholesaler Unlimited Furniture, and the fast growing online furniture retailer BedroomFurnitureDiscounts.com,” Gans said. “The gala will also celebrate the legacies of three of the greatly love gentlemen from our industry who passed away recently; George Massood, Joe Cory and Larry Gans.”
The event, black tie optional, will feature food, an open bar, music and dancing.
