As the housing industry continues to bounce back after the recession, the price of homes has skyrocketed 34 percent in seven years.
As millennials continue to age into the median home-buying age over the next decade, the accelerating housing costs could leave few dollars for the purchase of furniture and other household goods.
While the increase of prices is great for the housing industry, and echoes a strong bounce back in the economy as a whole, the increase in housing costs is outpacing the increase in wages, meaning that more and more of the monthly budget will be dedicated to housing. If that trend continues, it could put a damper on consumer goods and services.
